Educators seek innovative methods to develop intercultural competence. This study evaluated documentary-based assignments' effectiveness in enhancing college students' intercultural competence, employing a mixed-methods approach grounded in Transformative Learning Theory and the Intercultural Communication Competence framework. The documentary "Living on One Dollar" was analyzed using a convergent mixed-methods design, where pre- and post-test surveys were used for the quantitative section, and pre-reflective and reflective open-ended questions were used for the qualitative section. Quantitative results indicated significant improvements in students' cultural knowledge and sensitivity, though practical skill application showed less progress. Qualitative data revealed increased empathy and global engagement desires. Integrating documentaries with reflective and experiential learning is recommended to maximize practical skill development. Educators should select diverse documentaries, facilitate thematic discussions, and implement scenario-based assessments.
